The 2012 Gastech London Conference Programme is now LIVE!

We gratefully received hundreds of paper submissions to speak at this year’s event, and after a great deal of effort from our Governing Body and co-Chairman, are delighted to now reveal the final papers and speakers to make it through to the Commercial and Technical Sessions.

The conference features many of the world’s most prominent speakers and experts in gas technology, commercialisation, analysis, project development and delivery. By bringing the technical and commercial gas worlds together, Gastech continues to command a unique place in the global gas industry calendar and this year’s conference programme for London is as exceptional as ever.

The Commercial and Technical streams are the ‘beating heart’ of the conference and each session welcomes the highest quality of papers from the international gas community. With many hundreds of abstracts submitted but only a handful of speaking opportunities available, the Gastech Governing Body had a tough time voting and then selecting the very best papers to make it through to the 2012 programme.

We sincerely thank all those who made a paper submission and congratulate those who were fortunate enough to make it through.

Commercial Sessions

  • Session 1: Market Outlook
  • Session 2: Natural Gas & LNG Projects
  • Session 3: Unconventional Gas
  • Session 4: Gas Monetisation

Additional Streams

Gas Trading, Origination & Regulation

The EFET gas trading day brings together experts on the key commercial and regulatory issues that now influence the market. With a theme of gas markets, prices and risk, the morning session starts by identifying the key drivers for international gas trade during the next few years. Why are the trading conditions changing in the liquid gas markets of Europe and North America? With input from the operators of hubs and exchanges, we contrast developments in the Northwest of Europe and in central Europe. What is the outlook for pipeline gas and LNG trading? Will the prices at Europe’s gas hubs converge, and how will prices in Europe be influenced by developments in North America or other parts of the world?

In the afternoon our focus is the European goal of achieving a single gas market. Will it be possible by 2014 to freely flow gas from one virtual trading point to another throughout the EU? What barriers do gas market participants say need to be removed? More than 18 months since the formation of the EU Agency for the Cooperation of Energy and Regulators, what does the Director of ACER think about the progress that has been made and the lessons for the future? How are new rules and regulations affecting gas trading? Finally, with increasing complexity and requirements for transparency, what are the best technical solutions to minimise implementation costs and maximise competitive advantage?

Financing Gas Supply & Infrastructure

The second of our ‘Third Streams’ is dedicated to the complex and challenging nature of financing gas supply & infrastructure projects, where that capital investment comes from, how it should be structured, and what legal contractual considerations are involved. The sessions will centre around:

  • Securitisation (including projects such as Nabucco/South Stream/Norway LNG)
  • Infrastructure & ownership
  • Project finance
  • Legal & Contractual
  • Mergers & Acquisition

There will be an examination of long-term LNG supply, especially concerning new developments in possible US export, and increases in uptake from China. There will be project focus on new supply dynamics including Canadian export potential (Kitimat LNG) to Asia, the development of Shtokman, plus the impacts of new ‘super-projects’ being developed in Australia (Browse, Pluto, Gorgon, Curtis Island/Gladstone etc). What impacts most on infrastructure projects (such as Nabucco or South Stream)? The project finance/CAPEX involved behind new build? Mergers & Acquisitions? It is also crucial to include specific national involvement to gain the perspectives of Russia (financing & infrastructure), China (including the views of the active NOCs in the market), plus ‘new’ producers such as Turkmenistan.

Student Programme

The Gastech Student Programme is designed to offer final-year university students and recent graduates the opportunity to listen to a full day of high level speakers from various disciplines within the natural gas industry.

The exclusive programme aims to provide student & graduate attendees with a better understanding of the industry, an awareness of the career development available and the opportunity to have industry questions answered by the most experienced and respected people.

The day will be composed of three conference sessions and a final Case Study session in which a problem solving exercise will be put forward. Students will be split into small groups to find a solution and asked to present their findings. The Case Study session was a great success in 2011, encouraging students to put into practice what they had learnt during the day, as well as giving students the chance to showcase their abilities to prospective employers.
